Controller (US GAAP) — Build & Own Finance Systems (Remote)
About the Client
PromptPeople is hiring for a fast-growing, high-performance services business supporting enterprise clients in the U.S. The company is scaling quickly and needs a finance leader who can own the full finance function, bring order to complexity, and build systems that make the business audit-ready at all times.
This is not a bookkeeper role. It’s for a high-caliber finance operator who thinks like a CFO, executes like an elite controller, and builds infrastructure that scales.
Why This Role Exists
The business needs someone to fully own finance end-to-end: close, reporting, controls, cash, payroll coordination, AP/AR, systems, process design, and financial clarity for leadership. Over time, this person can help build and lead a finance team.
What You’ll Own (Responsibilities)
Finance ownership & close
Own full-cycle accounting: AP, AR, payroll coordination, treasury, month-end close, reporting, reconciliations
Maintain a clean general ledger with monthly reconciliations for every account
Ensure GAAP-compliant financials with strong documentation and discipline
Controls, structure & audit-readiness
Build and enforce internal controls, approval workflows, and accountability systems
Create accounting calendars, checklists, SOPs, and standardized processes
Maintain an audit-ready posture: organized support, clean trails, consistent policy application
Reporting & business insight
Deliver monthly/quarterly financial statements with commentary and variance analysis
Build dashboards for KPIs: cash, margins, labor metrics, budget vs actual, trends
Translate numbers into operational insight and action for leadership
Systems & automation
Optimize and integrate tools (QuickBooks, Ramp, payroll systems, AP automation)
Reduce manual work through process redesign, templates, and integrations
Improve data integrity across finance workflows
Cash, forecasting & strategic finance
Manage cash daily and create short and mid-term cash forecasts
Build budgets and rolling forecasts with department owners
Build models (3-statement, scenario/what-if, ROI, headcount/labor models, unit economics)
Tax & external partners
Coordinate tax packages and filings with external CPAs; ensure organized readiness year-round
Understand core US tax concepts and multi-state exposure (as relevant)
Vendor management & compliance
Manage vendor onboarding (W-9s, 1099s, COIs, renewals), invoice validation, and procurement controls
Longer-term leadership
Help hire, train, and manage remote/offshore finance support as the company scales
